News & Information

Spring 2022

We are grateful for many things as we look back on the last two years.

We were able to continue to work safely - following COVID protocols.

Our projects included Residential Design/Build, Commercial/Institutional Remodeling and Home Modification through the State of MN CADI Waiver Program.

An update on our Services:

Design/Build: Charles Boigenzahn, who has been a Construction Project Manager for over 30 years (15 at Whole Builders), has taught himself CAD and is enjoying working with our Design/Build clients. He has a great understanding of how to creatively solve the design issues for each project, as well as what details are important for the bidding and construction process.

Custom Cabinets: We are thrilled to introduce our new Cabinet Team - Gomez Whitney - owned by Jon Gomez Whitney. Jon and his highly skilled team are now working with us to create cabinets for our projects.
Their work is beautiful!

Our other goals for 2022 are to update the website and create our own estimating database.

Always feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need a referral.

Thank you again for all of your support these many years.

May you all stay safe and healthy,
Marcia, Owner

July 2020

Greetings to our Whole Builder’s Community,

We want to thank you for the many years you have supported us - either as clients, vendors, employees, subs, or friends. We hope you all find yourselves healthy and safe.

We want to express our deep commitment to the diverse communities that make East Lake Street the resilient population that it is. We are happy to report that Whole Builders is keeping both busy and safe despite major community disruptions caused by police violence and COVID-19. Our facility at 4th Ave South and East Lake Street remains undamaged. We stand with those fighting for justice, and we plan to be an integral part of the rebuilding that needs to take place (read on for more details about how this work has already started!).

2020 was always going to be a time of major change for Whole Builders Cooperative. As some of you know, Mary Jane Heinen, founder and Architect, retired earlier this year. Don Richmond, our Cabinet-maker will be retiring this summer. Their contributions to Whole Builders are unmatched. Mary Jane leaves behind a legacy of her leadership in the establishment and development of Whole Builders, as well as the numerous projects she designed. Don’s nearly 40 years of beautiful hand-crafted cabinetry is appreciated and admired by all who see it, especially those lucky enough to have his designs in their homes or businesses.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, we see the company expanding in four areas:

  • Residential Design / Build as well as repair and insurance work services for homeowners.
  • Commercial / Institutional Remodeling, including repairs and insurance work.
  • CADI Waiver Projects through the DHS and other Agencies — helping seniors and the disabled stay in their homes.
  • We also plan to expand our role in helping to rebuild and strengthen our business community on East Lake Street, which has been our home for over 30 years.

We are not yet sure how the last item will play out, but in a way our work has already started. In the last few weeks our staff members began volunteering labor and materials to assist our neighboring businesses however we can.

Suffice to say, to achieve these ambitious goals, we will need new employees, members, and clients to join us in our mission. Please feel free to send us any references you think would be a good fit, and feel free to share this email with anyone that might be interested.

Thank you all very much!

In solidarity,

The Whole Builders Team
